Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!

Lou Stine

Welcome! I’m glad you stopped by.
I work as an elementary school counselor here in Parsons. I have worked in all the elementary schools, but am currently at Lincoln and Garfield.

First, a little bit about me. I grew up in Labette County and have lived here all my life, with the exception of one very interesting year in Houston, TX. I live in Parsons, with my dog, Gus, and have one son, Jake, who is all grown up and living in Arkansas.  Some of my favorite things to do are art, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends. I’m pretty adventurous and love trying new experiences. This is my 33rd year in education! Where has the time gone? I've taught Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and Title 1 reading and math before I becoming a counselor. I have two degrees from Pittsburg State University, a BS in Elementary Education, and a MS in School Counseling.

Now, about my job: My duties as counselor include classroom counseling lessons in each classroom. I visit the PK rooms once a month, and schedule lessons in grade K-3 rooms twice a month. The lessons cover many topics, including bullying, dealing with anger, honesty, respect, responsibility, cooperation, stranger danger, and others.

I also work with individual students or small groups as needed to help them deal with issues such as getting along with others, coping with illness, death, or divorce, controlling anger, or other issues that may be of concern to them.  Students may be referred by parents or teachers, or they may request to visit with me on their own.

Sometimes parents need support as well, so please feel free to contact me or come by the school for a visit if you have questions or concerns, or if I may be of help to you in any way. I hope you and your children will have a great experience with us in USD 503!
